The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
