Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
